Earth works:- volumes were in excess of 400,000m3 and given the weather conditions in the area these operations required great skill and judgement. All the large earthworks plant items are owned by the company and are maintained to high standard with our own in house fitters.
Rock:- All the imported rock for both phases was quarried locally and has been processed by our own crushing equipment.
All the old A832 on both phases which has been removed to date has been recycled and is included in the type 1 sub base within the contract, thus avoiding dumping of the old materials and the need for additional import of materials.
Achnasheen Phase 3.
The last phase of twin track from Achnasheen to Kinlochewe with Phases 1 and 2 completed by HQC Ltd (2002-2006)
The works involved construction of the new 4.65km section of the A832 between the viewpoint and Kinlochewe, which started late 2005, with a completion date of December 2006.
Due to the nature of the works HQC gained a very close working relationship with S.E.P.A (Dingwall) for assisting in the control of the numerous existing water course, and S.N.H for their input into the design of the earthworks features which were put in place.

The imported materials on phases 1-3 were all produced at our own quarry at Achansheen by our crushing division with exception to surfacing products, these were taken from Inverness coating plants. The construction off the works was carried out with HQC's own staff and labour force.
With the new road-way being designed and constructed to obviously reduce environmental impact on the area, it meant that 70% of the new road was encroaching onto the existing road-way. This in turn involved major diversion and traffic control requirements carried out by our own traffic management division and involved changes being implemented on a daily basis to carry out the excavation and disposal of 200,000m3 of materials from the works. With the contract coming to an end we can report that this was carried out successfully. Included within the above were specific time requirements for effected areas of work, i.e. 5km of the 13km fencing had to be installed to make the area stock proof prior to sections being constructed, along with restriction for works due to Eagles nesting within Glendocherty itself.
This phase of the works operated very successfully under the NEC conditions of contract, which was a change from conventional phase1, and phase2 that were completed by HQC previously.
